I’m A Body Positive Promoter And Proud!

0

Okay so this happened the other day…

I was talking to someone about my blog and what I do and how I like to promote body positivity and self-love. This is a standard conversation for me as I love talking about what I do, however, they asked me for my dress size.

When I replied with “a Size 10/12 or 14 depending on what shop I’m in”, I was told I couldn’t promote body positivity because I wasn’t fat.

Now hold up…

Number one, being fat is not a bad thing so don’t say it like it was an insult.

Number two, being body positive and promoting body positivity is not exclusive to specific dress sizes.

The whole point of body positivity is that all shapes and sizes, whether you’re a size 6 or a size 26, are BEAUTIFUL! All that matters is that your body and mind are healthy, because at the end of the day that’s really all that matters.

Body positivity is not discriminating against other people’s figure just because it doesn’t fit your ideal. Just like saying I can’t promote body positivity because I don’t fit your ideal for someone that wants body positivity!

I’m confident in my body and that’s all that matters. What size I wear doesn’t affect my happiness and that’s the whole point! People shouldn’t be shamed into thinking they need to fit a certain size, they should just be proud of the one that they are. As I always say, you should love yourself in every way because at the end of the day you’re the only you you’re ever going to get!

By telling me I can’t promote body positivity because of my size is not only shaming the whole movement, but it’s also size discrimination. It’s the exact reason people of my size should be promoting it! Everyone should be promoting it!

I understand that the origins of the body positive movement have come from the plus size industry due to the demand for more representation of a range of sizes, particularly for women. This is perfectly represented by Tess Holliday in her #EffYourBeautyStandards campaign, which I am loving! However, this need for more representation branches into all areas of life. People are diverse and that is body positivity.

I can support and promote body positivity because, believe it or not I have my days where I lack body confidence. I used to suffer with it quite a bit before I started this blog. One part that I have always been self conscious with is the fact that I am a proud member of the Itty Bitty Titty Committee. For my size it is often expected my boobs should be bigger so I always felt self conscious in a bikini or in tops that showed my chest because I thought everyone would be staring or making judgements. My style seems to have developed over the years to the point that I realised a few months back that I only have one top, yes ONE, that isn’t high neck. This one top also took a lot of courage the first time I wore it, and regrettably I haven’t worn it as much as I would like. See the thing is I am obsessed with the top – I love it. But whenever I wear it I do get a little self conscious. It’s hard to break away from my clothes routine of the last however many years, but I’ll get there!

What I’m trying to say here, is the fact that everyone and anyone can be subject to feeling low about there body, and that’s why everyone and anyone should promote body positivity. Regardless of height, weight, cup size, shoe size and every other number we use to define our image, we all have our own unique code and that should be celebrated!

All sizes can promote a body positive mindset because body positivity affects all sizes.

No one is immune and no one is prioritised or in an exclusive club when it comes to body positivity and that needs to be made more aware.

So conclusion: don’t ever tell me or anyone else they can’t promote body positivity because of their size. It’s just so wrong it actually pains me!
